I’d like to remind members and passersby of a new “sister site” I’ve created, this aimed at working hand in hand with this CoachChic.com site. As is stated in the following video, “Coaches love drills”, which brought me to the creation of the new Hockey Drills Only Group.

Hockey Drills Only Group
Okay, first for that video about the new Hockey Drills Only Group…
As an aside here… This old coach has belonged to numerous (so-called) coaching or drills groups over several years, these ultimately ranging from pretty good to pretty unfair to other members. As for the not-so-good groups, they were often run by coaches of limited experience and/or even less in the way of scientific backgrounds. Really, I have no problem with such coaches expressing their ideas, but I do fear for new parents and coaches following advice that is likely to harm or at least delay the progress of their youngsters.
With that, enter my new Hockey Drills Only Group. The “Drills Only” was intentional, as a means of limiting discussions to what coaches like best.
As for the “rules” I alluded to in the above video, they’re really fairly simple…
First — and in contrast to some of the other groups I’ve observed, discussions should be civil.
Secondly, I ask that there be no links to websites outside the Hockey Drills Only Group. That seemed a problem in some other forums, whereby visitors only stopped by to plug their own services or sites. What I also want to avoid is someone just dropping in and saying, “Hey, go to this website for a great drill.” Naw, I’d prefer they show us a drill themselves, thus giving all members an opportunity to discuss or make comments on that drill right there within our group.
What’s the aim of that new Hockey Drills Only Group? Well, the above aside should provide a few hints. Still…
My sense is that this new group will become absolutely filled with drill ideas.
From a personal standpoint, I know I have to do a lot of the posting in the early going, until more coaches get relaxed and comfortable about offering their own ideas. My hope, though, is that others gradually take over to the betterment of all member coaches.
Also from a personal standpoint, interactions with other coaches (and serious hokey parents) always helps me grow.
As importantly, I see all the interactions within the Hockey Drills Only Group providing new fodder for future CoachChic.com posts.
Lastly, I’ll accept any dedicated coach and serious hockey parent into the group. You have to belong to Facebook, of course, but nearly everyone I know does. Just click on the following link, request admittance, and I’ll see you on the inside: Hockey Drills Only Group
Besides posts by other members, I’ll post a new drill idea each Thursday at noontime.
