Oh, man, Shawnee, does this one strike home. As a matter of fact, it almost always comes up when a hockey parent wonders why his or her teen isn’t gaining any weight or size with all the work their youngster is doing. And that’s when I try to remind the parent that workouts are meant to break down cells, but then those cells need time and rest and nutrition to build newer (and likely bigger) ones capable of handling the latest workloads. Sadly, since the parent is most often the problem, he or she usually takes an awful lot of reminding or convincing.
