Understanding A Mastermind Group

Longtime followers might notice our dropping the term “webinar” as a way of defining our frequent hockey get-togethers, opting instead to call them “mastermind meetups”.

Why so?

First, I think the term webinar has taken on a slightly negative connotation in recent years, whereby a presenter talks to (or at) his or her audience, often with the aim of ultimately selling something. Trust me, that I’ve never intended to do that.

In contrast, a mastermind gathering has a very different meaning, as described just below by noted motivational speaker, Earl Nightingale, as he shares some words of wisdom from the author of “Think And Grow Rich”, Napoleon Hill…

For those who want to explore further, Wikipedia defines a mastermind as a “…group used to help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members.” And, quoting Hill, that piece suggests that noted Americans like Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Theodore Roosevelt, John D. Rockefeller, and Charles M. Schwab relied a great deal on mastermind get-togethers for their success.

As for our planned “meetups”, let me refer back to the above paragraph, where it’s suggested that a mastermind group can “help members solve their problems with input and advice from the other group members”. Sound like a good idea? As a matter of fact, isn’t that what our duties as hockey coaches and parents are all about — about solving problems?

Secondly, and from a personal perspective… After having spent nearly a half-century as a coach, I know quite well that coaching — and oftentimes parenting — is a very, very lonely assignment. So, I see nothing more comforting than the chance to share and perhaps solve difficulties with like minded others.

Okay, just briefly… There is another nearby post that deals directly with OUR NEXT HOCKEY MASTERMIND MEETUP.

At some point, a new meetup will be announced there, along with directions for securing a slot in and then preparing for that gathering. (Until further notice, all meetups will be free to attend, and they’ll be open to both members and non-members. They may be limited in number, however, only so everyone gets fair attention.)

You should know that I’ve gone to great lengths to make meetup participation as easy as possible. That means no Zoom-like downloads or registrations, no time limits on our meetings, no need to provide a ton of personal information, etc. No, I’ll ultimately provide participants a link to a meeting room actually owned by my Local Video Marketing company, and that’s it!

If a meetup is not currently planned, you’ll be greeted in that post by a My Bot Pal, Matt, who will encourage you to suggest a topic for the next get-together. As Matt says, only you (and I) can see your response, so don’t be shy with your ideas.

Lastly, these truly are trying times, all around the hockey world. And we all likely need more help now than at any other time in our sport’s history. So, please do go to that next page — OUR NEXT HOCKEY MASTERMIND MEETUP, and either suggest a new topic or plan on joining others with the next hockey meetup.
