Hockey’s Basic Shots

While we’ll get into things far — and I mean far — more scientific than the mechanics of hockey’s basic shots, I truly believe in starting everything from the absolute beginning steps.  It’s only from there that we can really appreciate getting more technical.

After you watch this video, please understand that I think it best to approach skills in a very slow and deliberate way.  I also warn members to never skip a single step or progression.

In reference to the above, know that my older students and players were known to score goals with only one hand — either left or right, while being totally off balance, while seated, from their knees, or under other unimaginable conditions.  In the heat of battle — and at their level of play, there was no way for them to get into a comfortable position, pull the puck far back, make a long sweep, or follow through with their shots.

Nonetheless, all the basic points mentioned in the above video really are necessary.  Once mastered, however, a player can then start moving on to the challenges I’ll add in the future.
