Some 2019 NHL Skating Analysis

I’d like members to watch the above video a few times, and drink in the various points I’ve made about the two featured skaters.  As you should know by now, I don’t mind at all if you argue with me on any of these points.

Before and after you watch the video, it might be helpful to review a past post, “Analyzing the Forward Stride“, where you’ll be reminded of several other parts of the skating stride to consider.

I hope no one thinks I’m bashing the young lady skater, but comparing her to McDavid is rather hard on her.

Also, another thing to consider when it comes to comparisons:  I don’t doubt the NHL player spends lots of time in the weightroom, and I also don’t doubt he handles poundage with his legs or lower body in the superhuman range.  Does that matter?  You bet!  Just imagine one of McDavid’s thrusts in comparison to Ms Schofield’s.

No matter, this study hasn’t been about who is or who isn’t best, but more about the little things that spell the difference in a quality like skating speed.

Then — and I do mean THEN…  To be perfectly honest, all the different competitions held during the NHL’s All-star break are purely for fun, and they’re not really a measurement of much.  Sure, it’s fun to see who can shoot the hardest, but seldom does a top scorer win that competition.  It’s also fun to see guys shoot for targets, but you know that’s nothing like what a player goes through out in front of an NHL.  And…  I’ll put my money on a player who is quick in confined areas over one who is fast in a lap around the rink.

Any arguments with that? (LOL!) If so, let’s talk about it down below!
