The History to My “MP Drill Format”

As the above graphic suggests, there is quite a history to my MP Drill Format.  As a matter of fact, my way of sharing ideas probably differs greatly from others, in that I want those who trust in me to totally understand the behind-the-scenes stuff, or how I ultimately arrived at a given problem’s solution.

Does that make sense — that I’d want hockey folks to understand the problems I see players face, the choices I see in helping with their problems, and then how I actually arrived at a given solution?  

Yes, I think intuitive type truly would like to know.

That said, other coaches, parents and adult rec players need to understand that my MP Drill Format began taking shape hundreds of miles south of Montreal, and several months prior to me visiting that beautiful city.  Yes, my high school players were struggling with an important part of their team play, and they weren’t going to experience much success — unless I found an answer for them.  (And, yes, that should be a coach’s role: supplying answers to players, whether they know enough to ask for help or not.)

As for the challenges my young guys were facing, it had to do with the transition game — or their need to switch from offense to defense to offense — a whole lot quicker than they’d been doing.   

Then, if you’re just visiting here and wondering what the big deal is about my MP Drill Format — or why I’ve delayed so long in sharing it, it’s because I think it’s THAT special, or THAT unique.  And, as you’ll discover (in January 2020), so have countless NHL and elite level European coaches felt the same. 

As a PS here…  I happened to be going through an old hockey diary over the last few days, and I spotted several old articles I’d written long ago for coaches.  So, as I often do, I’ll be inserting them in my December 2020 post offerings.

I bring this up because the likes of “Coaching Can Be a Lonely Job” and “When Hockey Folks Talk In Code” are very much related to what I said above, as in helping players deal with problems.
