Not everyone realizes there are discrepancies in the way various athletes move in a straight line, and it just so happens that there are also differences in the biomechnics applied in the three skating sports.

It would be helpful for hockey coaches, parents and adult players to understand a few things — as they plan skill drills, and as they evaluate the numerous training devices available on the market.  Even more so, it will likely prove helpful when assessing a local skating coach’s knowledge when it comes to the science of skating for hockey.
